The credit requirements of foreigners with residence permits differ significantly from those of locals. We often hear the following question in this context: "I have just moved to Switzerland and need a loan. Do I have to observe a certain waiting period?" However, the credit banks are reluctant to answer this.
As an aid to our new residents, as well as in terms of transparency, we can provide you with these deadlines, which should be understood as minimum requirements for a successful credit application:
- Permit with G permit - at least 4 years
- Approval of the credit with B permit - the stay in Switzerland must be at least 12 months
- Approval of the credit with identity card C - no restrictions
- Approval with ID L - currently no borrowing is possible
Please note that these dates are based on our experience and can be adjusted by the credit institutions at any time. The time period is valid from the date of entry in your passport.
Identification papers
It makes sense to keep the old identification documents when renewing them, as the offices sometimes enter the date of issue in the entry date field. Without a copy of the previous identity document or passport, we cannot provide sufficient proof of your stay in Switzerland to the credit banks. For loans with ID B, we more often see cautious lending, the amounts of which increase steadily with longer presence in our country. Therefore, it is advisable to take out smaller sums at the beginning and to increase them later.
